Lady Friends

There was an excellent article this past weekend in the Sunday Times Style mag by Jessica Brinton in which she speaks to Shere Hite (a renowned sex researcher) about platonic female-female relationships and how jealousy and mistrust can interfere. The article explores not only how we often let our competitive nature get in the way of friendship, but how we often put these sort of relationships to the side in favor of our romantic ones. Hite points out that while marriage is viewed as the ultimate consecration of romantic love, there isn't really anything to take special friendships to a higher level.
"The life cycle of friendships can be like that of a love affair. It surges and then it dies, because it doesn't know where to go. There is no such thing as a 'frienship party' and that's a shame. We need a word as beautiful as marriage."

She also argues that because modern society focuses so much on sexual love we do not express physical love towards our friends, and we are, as a society, starved for affection.
"Back in the days before a one-night stand was still eternal ruination, ladies were much more inclined to roll around in the hay together and call each other 'dearest one' without worrying about people getting the wrong idea"

beard papa

i was going to write about cupcakes, but all cupcake sites i could find seemed uninspired in comparison to miss knomes's baking school creations. when i don't have the luxury of her confections, i sometimes treat myself and mr. fantasy to beard papa; fresh delicious japanese cream puffs. they are so amazing, mostly because they are so fresh. the cream, after you've chosen original or the flavor of the day, is injected to order, so the pastry doesn't get all gross and mushy. i recommend original (vanilla) but i mr. fanatsay prefers chocolate. there is one on oxford street in london, a handful in new york, and even one in new jersey!

Leslie Hall

gay pride black girl posted a vid of leslie and the ly's on my myspace and i was SO into it. But I was also really excited because i recognized her from an issue of BUST magazine that i had long forgotten about. leslie, i think before her hip-hop days, has a huge collection of GEM SWEATERS (like what middle aged rich jewish ladies from north jersey wear)and created a mobile gem sweater museum out of them. she really has a lot and they are all amazing.

mmmmm me likey (mostly)

viktor & rolf fall 2008 ready-to-wear

according to style.com, this is whats up w/ their look right now...

into it ---

not into it ---

PARIS, February 26, 2008 – "We love fashion, but it's going so fast. We wanted to say 'No' this season." Thus spoke Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren to a group of devoted fans and curious reporters eager to parse the meaning of a somewhat difficult Fall show that began with a precise gray trench, the word "No" popping out from its chest in 3-D, and ended with a strapless black tulle dress gathered below the knee and embroidered with the phrase "Dream on."More than three weeks into the collections, with another five days left to go, no one is going to argue the point with the Dutch designers. And they did manage to express the frustrations we all feel, with characteristic irony: with staples (as in metal fastenings, not wardrobe classics). They were golden staples, to be precise, and they stood in for seams at the waist of a peplum jacket and in pleats on a pair of baggy trousers; they fastened ruffles to the shoulder and hem of an asymmetrical party frock; and they became a form of glam embroidery on a strapless, tiered gown. Without them, these clothes (the frilled organza blouses, the nipped-waist red sheath, the belted fox coat) would've landed squarely on the predictable side of French chic. With them, and in such great numbers, the results felt gimmicky."

I don't quite agree -- I don't think w/o the gold staples the clothes would've been predictably french, in fact I think viktor & rolf are being a bit demure this season (words in the trench excluded)...there aren't any huge bows or collars or exaggerated anything like they usually do. I think the details of the clothes are rather elegant, even if I don't personally like some of them, just b/c. but I also don't think it felt gimmicky either...I think they were going in a new direction, and like all routes unchartered, there were some lovely hits and some not-so-lovely uglies.

Eva Mendes Happy & Back Into Shape

I can’t even believe Eva Mendes really did rehab for some “substance abuse” problem that is still not clear.
I think it’s amazing that Eva was so aware and ready to get herself together that we never noticed any weird behavior… the only sign was her check in rehab that took us by surprise.
Eva checked out on February 7 from the exclusive Cirque Lodge in Utah, where she spent several weeks. Leaving her workout in her peach pants and gray workout top, Eva appears to be taking her post-rehab health seriously.
Go girl! Rehab rocks! Eva is amazingly gorgeous and that big smile on her face never looked better.

Beyonce’s New Hairdo: What the hell was she thinking??

Beyonce was having some fun in New York at the Oscar’s night, going to her favorite place, La Esquina, spotting a new blonde hairdo. What the hell was she thinking? Not just the hair cut but Beyonce looks like a doll, real plastic. She looks like the dumber Barbie version… I don’t know… is that a wig??
Damn, I hope it is!! I still love you Beyonce… please go back to the darker version, I love it!!

Paris Hilton is a Huge Fan of American Idol & Loves Simon

"I love Simon. I love Paula because I've known her since I was little, but Simon is just funny. I just love his humor. He's kind of mean, but he makes the show really funny.
"It's funny when the really bad people come in. I just think it's hilarious ... I feel like there have been so many seasons now that people are coming in [knowing] they'll get air time if they act completely crazy and, like, suck. So it's funny to see those nuts."
I’m a little confused… is Paris talking about herself in that last part?? I find it funny to see Paris acting like a crazy nut!! :)

Jessica Alba Slip Scare Backstage at the Oscars

Jessica Alba reveals in her last blog post on her official MySpace that while she was happy she didn’t flub her lines or trip on her dress while recapping the winners of the Scientifical and Technical Achievement awards, she did get tripped up offstage.Hi Everyone
So I’ve been absent because A. I’ve been pretty busy. B. Terrible excuse who isn’t busy (…) I presented last night at the Oscars it was a pretty great night.
I love Jon Steward the Daily Show is one of my favorite shows hands down. I was rooting for Javier Bardem, Diablo Cody and Marion Cotillard so happy for them all. Meeting lil Miss Ellen Page was a highlight, Juno was by far one of the best movies I’ve seen. An instant classic as far as I'm concerned, great writing and a great cast.
Another highlight was the fact that I didn’t mess up my lines or trip on my dress (on stage). I did have a stumble backstage outside of the green room. Cash caught one arm the other hit the floor.
Luckily all the photogs were taking pics of Cameron D. looking gorgeous in pink I might add. Another highlight of last night was instead of hitting up the Governors Ball or any other party, we opted for sweats and in’n’out burgers.
Being preggers kind of takes the fun out of partying until the wee hours. Sleep always sounds so much better these days.
[Jessica Alba MySpace, Monday, February 25, 2008]

The slip didn’t affect her good spirits… or her baby bump. Jessica Alba hit the Oscars in an empire waist Marchesa gown and looked absolutely fabulous.
Jessica Alba also confessed recently she is on her third semester, not expecting twins and she will breastfeed.

The Spice Girls Reunion Tour is Over: Goodbye Message & End of an Era

The Spice Girls say goodbye to their fans in one last concert of their reunion tour in Toronto, Canada. The concert was very emotional for the 5 girls and there were a lot of tears and hugs, demolishing the idea of a war between the girls.
I do believe this is the last time we are going to see the Spice Girls together on stage. Some of the girls fulfilled their wishes to have their kids on the same stage with them and overall the show was quite amazing.
The Spice Girls left this goodbye message on their official site:

Hello...
Our time is up... we've come to the end of the road… there are tears of both sadness and joy. Look how far we've come!
Who would have thought that our reunion could have turned out to be this amazing? It just shows what can grow out of an exciting thought, an idea, a hope, a dream. Yes, our reunion tour is proof that dreams do come true.
We have been lucky enough to have shared it with the most loyal fans in the world. Ten years on, you came back still wanting more… and it looks like we made some new friends along the way. You have inspired and ignited us with each show, the 47 that we performed, each time was amazing and it is thanks to you.
So we look to the future with hope and imagination and let Girl Power live on through all of you as it will continue in us and the future generations to come.
We have learnt so much through you and through each other.
"Never give up on the good times always believe in the love you find."
We hate goodbyes but sadly the time has come to take our final bow so maybe our song says it best:
"Goodbye my friend, it's not the end… So glad we made it, time will never ever change it… "
Mission Accomplished...

Love
Emma, Geri, Mel B, Melanie C and Victoria
xxxxx
Victoria made sure it was a night to remember as she put on a show of raunchy dancing with one of the Spice's backing dancers, dressed only in a black lace basque and matching lacy tights.
It was an emotional farewell, with Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Geri and Mel C gathering at the end for a group hug and individual embraces throughout the show.
An emotional Geri said: "I've just got to say, as you know, this is the last night of the tour and we never dreamt we'd ever back together and be such a success and who knows if we'll ever get back together again."
The Spice Girls closed the show with a rousing final performance of "Spice Up Your Life."
That’s it Y’all… it’s the end of an era, The Spice Girls Girl Power Era!! They will be missed…

what is going on here

House of Gine

i know we make fun of 'the gine', aka emo ginehouse, aka amy winehouse, but i could be into her having her own clothing line. On a day to day basis, she does look like a hobo wearing a dead raccoon on her head, but i think when she dresses up for live performances and the like she looks pretty nice, from a style perspective. She always wears betsey johnson and fred perry, who are two of my fav designers ever, and she is into the whole rockabilly/60's/ pin-up vibe which i am into times ten. So i think if she gets the right people to work on this with her it could come out with some very desirable pieces. Not that her style is entirely a niche market, but i am supportive of this type of clothing being more avaible and having a larger selection to choose from. Of course, she could completely fuck it up and make a lot of horrible shit that only 10 year old white trash girls will want to wear and they will sell at ASDA (the english wal-mart), or make rockabilly style completely common place and played out, which would ruin my life. I think her best option is to do something a little down market from what chloe sevigny did for opening ceremony. It's a small collection where every piece is special and not available at every store on the street. Plus it's done through a very respectable clothing line, so the pieces are well made. Fred Perry does collaborations with other designers all the time, so i think it would be the perfect place to start a collection. Amy, don't fuck this up

Rihanna & Chris Brown Hot, Personal & Romantic

Oooh, how cute they look together?? The real question is for how long this has been going on. Chris and Rihanna were caught very close and personal in the water on their deserved vacations to celebrate Rihanna’s 20th birthday (Feb, 20).
The couple arrived in Jamaica together on Friday from Rihanna's native Barbados for the Smile Jamaica Africa Unite Bob Marley celebration in St. Mary, where she performed.
"They were smooching in the pool and were really lovely dovey," a source says "They were playfully making out and he was kissing her on the neck."
"They were floating together with him carrying her and she kept saying, 'Don't get my hair wet.' She was very soft and feminine but he was a big kid and splashing around."
That’s soo sickly cute and romantic… plus to top it off they have matching star tattoos on the neck. Love is beautiful… Congrats to the happy couple.

Zac Efron Loves American Idol

"[I like 'American Idol' because] it deals with regular people who really have a dream and like to perform. I have such admiration for those guys -- they go literally from zero to 60 in a matter of days and they handle it like champs ... most of them. I couldn't have done that: go to the peak of your fame within a month of starting, and to be able to handle that kind of pressure. I don't envy them."I tend to agree with Simon most of the time. But my favorite judge, just because I know her, is Paula -- she's a real sweetheart."

Colin Farrell is Happy & Proud of his Son

Colin’s son is 4 years old baby James, who was diagnosed with a neuro-genetic disorder, Angelman’s Syndrome. James is one beautiful baby boy that needs special attention from his parents.
"Angelman's is a neuro-genetic disorder," Colin explained. "The 15th chromosome is dormant. It affects their fine motor skills. They say that one in 30,000 children is affected by it."
The genetic disorder, which can impair speech, movement and balance meant that James walked his first few steps last fall, when he was 4. "It's just different," said the actor. "It's not different to me. He has his own path. He's just brilliant."
"He's nothing but a gift," Farrell said "As far as I'm concerned he's exactly the way he should be."
OMG is that the same Colin Farrell, the bad boy we used to know? For some reason he just got hotter.
Farrell shares custody of James with the boy’s mother, model Kim Bordenave. He said he decided to go public about his son’s health after people started asking questions about his involvement with the Special Olympics.
“I didn’t talk about my son [but] I felt like I was betraying him, like it could be misconstrued as shame, which would be terrible, because he’s such a celebration.
“I look around and I see people who move perfectly, who walk with grace, who speak with great diction and clarity and a great use of the English language and we’re all miserable f—ers – including me, at times.
“And then I see this fella who doesn’t move the way what’s perceived to be ‘normal’ is, and he’s as happy as can be.”
Go Colin!! Fatherhood just suits him!! That’s HOT!!

Paris Hilton & Benji Madden Are Head Over Heels For Now

The new hottest couple in Hollywood is… not Paris and Benji for sure. How did they get together?? Is this for real?? Or is it some kind of publicity stunt for some reason strange reason that we just don’t get yet?
The pair - who were first spotted together in Los Angeles last week - looked loved-up as they held hands while shopping in West Hollywood earlier this week.
Paris - who is reportedly set to star in new reality TV show later this year - has even been seen wearing a silver band from top jewelers Tiffany and Co. on her ring finger, sparking engagement rumors.
“We hear she has been wearing a Tiffany band from Benji on her ring finger!” reports Page Six.
A source close to Benji said: “He is really happy with Paris and has already been telling all his friends she is the one. He says he can really see himself ending up with her for good.”
Isn’t it a little too soon to be calling Paris the one??
I bet Nicole Richie is super happy to have her BFF/enemy Paris Hilton as her sister-in-law. :)
