find a death

I just randomly came across this website called "Find A Death"

it's by this dude from LA, by way of detroit, who, in his "about us" page, explains his obsession w/ death. here is an excerpt:

Growing up in Detroit, I lived on one of the most dangerous intersections in the city. Fatal accidents were normal. There was a family ritual - when we were jarred awake from our slumber by that horrible noise of a car accident. One would call the police, one would grab the towels, etc. One night while I was asleep, a car hit a lamp post in front of our house. I heard the sound of slamming brakes, the impact, and the live wires of a fallen street light zapping away. I got out of bed, looked out the window, yawned, and returned to bed. You get the idea.

The first celebrity deaths of any real recollection to me were Martin Luther King and Janis Joplin. When Florence Ballard of the Supremes passed away in 1976, I became obsessed.



So, this dude loves death. but not in a creepy way. and he made this website, in his words, "To assemble the stories of people's deaths, with photographs."

Basically, you go to the website, click on "Directory" and find the story (w/ pictures) of famous people's death, or people's famous deaths. it is pretty interesting (I think). there's fred astaire, BIG, ed wood, paula yates, etc.

it's definitely not the most professional of websites (typos and such), but fun to go to when you are bored.



this dude actually goes to the places of death and takes pictures, so there are things like:

the death certificate (ennis cosby, bill cosby's son)

the grave (nat kelly cole, right next to nat king cole's grave)

doorways, mailboxes, streelights, anything that had something significant to do w/ the murder (dorthy dandridge's front door, her manager had to break it down to find her dead in the bathroom)

death photos (brandon lee after he was shot) (sad!)

The Wellcome collection

Yesterday Mr. Fantasy and I went to visit the Wellcome Colletion, which is not a shitty place to buy souviners and use the toilet when you enter a new state (like in america) but actually a small collection of galleries and special exhibits all touching on the common theme of medicine. The collection was originally started by Sir Henry Wellcome.

My first favorite thing was a sculpture by John Isaacs called 'I can't help the way I feel'


I also was really into the special exhibition called 'Life Before Death' which is a collection of photos of terminally ill people one close to their death and then one just after, with a little bit of information on them and how they felt about their life and their soon to be death. It wasn't depressing at all actually, and I actually felt a bit up lifted after leaving.

I never knew this, but apparently there is a website where you can see pics of dead celebrities...how gruesome. but I looked at most of them

mostly autopsy stuff.

I got used to seeing dead bodies when I used to have to deliver flowers to funeral homes, but I was always afriad when I put the flowers down the dead person would grab my arm or something. but they were all made up w/ make-up and stuff. these peeps just look dead.

creepy

i'm doing research on sicily for an opera i'm working on and i came across the capuchin crypt of palermo, which apparently is a tomb where they hang dead, embalmed bodies from the walls.

shit looks mad creepy.
