Horse Riding Caravan Layers Famous Fair Routes

Horse Riding Caravan Layers Famous Fair Routes
Motorists in Cumbria are being warned to watch out for a slow horse-drawn caravan, such as Gypsies and Travellers make an annual pilgrimage to the famous annual horse fair Appleby.

Cumbria Police issued the warning before the long weekend, taking into account the additional traffic would be on the road, including cyclists, who enjoy the winding roads and points of view about rural Cumbria.

"Pilots who are familiar with the roads regularly enjoy quiet roads and relatively free of traffic," said Inspector Andy Wilkinson.

"However, they may get a shock ... to see so many vehicles and trailers to help reduce a fast, as they make their way to Appleby Horse Fair."

Appleby horse vehicles, which runs from June 3, use of mountain bike trails very popular, "he said.

"Horse-drawn vehicles travel at the speed of walking, if a cyclist comes to a turning traveling at 40-60 mph and looks like a horse-drawn vehicle in front of them, they will be forced to slow down very quickly."

Meanwhile, the group that commits the planning for the show each year, says he will create a forum every day in the presence of Gypsies, Travellers and the local community standard, so that any problems that can occur when the fair is debatable.

Police officers working in the Multi-Agency Strategic Coordination Group (MASCG) said that this forum will be held at 07:00 at the fair.

There will be an opportunity for stakeholders to provide information on what goes well and highlight the problems.

Assistant Chief Constable Jerry Graham, chief of police at the fair, said: "Our priority at Appleby Fair is to make sure it is as safe and enjoyable as possible for everyone.

"That means we have a difficult job balancing the needs of local communities who have temporarily transformed their neighborhood, and Gypsies and travelers from all over to honor the ancient traditions of their family event.

"When you listen to feedback last year we decided to personally invite key members of local communities and a constant number of Gypsies and Traveller sites Appleby is a forum every day.

"Here you have the opportunity to ask questions, to highlight what works and discuss issues that they or their neighbors, perhaps.

"We hope this will be a new way to give each community a voice and an opportunity to provide immediate feedback to the multi-agency group that works to coordinate the fair."

About 20 people in the local community and the Gypsy and travel groups have approached MASCG and is called Community Advisory Group, which is closed to the public.

MASCG includes representatives from the Eden District Council, Cumbria Police Cumbria County Council, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Services, NHS Cumbria, North West Ambulance Service, RSPCA, the environment, of the South Lakeland District Council, Highways Agency and HMRC .
