Safe Water Circulation During The Summer

Safe Water Circulation During The Summer
Houma - As summer approaches, advocates encourage boaters and swimmers to follow simple safety tips that can save lives.

Margeaux Doiron, director of the YMCA Aquatic Houma, said parents should teach their children to swim when young.

"It's important to start as young as possible because we live in an area that is surrounded by water," said Doiron.

Hayden has been appointed in June Pool Safety Awareness Month in Terrebonne Parish, in honor of two years Hayden Davenport, who drowned in the swimming pool of a neighbor in 2007. The family said that when the boy looked at the family hung Halloween decorations in the yard when he suddenly disappeared.

Davenport family has been vocal in trying to get laws that have strict guidelines for owners of swimming. Terrebonne Parish Council woman, Teri Cavalier law tries to give rules for owners of land-based tanks.

The law was proposed last more than three years ago, but the Council rejected, citing concerns that it violated the rights of landowners. This proposal would need to be locked fences around the pool or the ladder must be removed when not in use. Violations should be accused, and may face fines of up to $ 500.

The new version is not published, but Knight said he wants to bring the law before the end of its ends December 31.

An average of 383 children under 15 drowned in pools each year from 2006 to 2008, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
