stevie ryan

Okay so maybe I’m like 3 years behind on this one, but basically I think I’m in love. Her name is Stevie Ryan. AKA the "first queen of YouTube", she is known for her satirical skills and erm… ‘colorful’ fictional characters. One of the most notable, littleloca, is a chola (yes, as in lip liner, sharpie markers, bandannas and razor blades cholas) from East LA who, while being completely hilarious, has caused quite a bit of stir from viewers who call Stevie’s depiction racist and derogatory to Hispanic Americans. Whatever, they love it. In fact, most of Stevie’s characters are a bit risqué, from the pregnant Myspace celebrity Sceney Sceneable, to the barefoot hillbilly Jamie Lynn, to the Islands, a sort of guido-centric Jersey Shore parody, but I think that is a huge part of her charm. After all, debwa loves being inappropes.

Basically, there are a lot of really awful female comedians out there, and it’s sad to say that for most of them their looks are the only thing worse than their sense of humor (I’m talking to you Ellen, i don't care if you are a lesbian that's no excuse). Stevie Ryan manages to look gorgeous, even when dressing up as Pee Wee Herman (it is kind of sexy actually) but also has her own genuinely funny provocative and dark humor, without being Sarah Silverman #2.

i think this one is especially spot-on.

how to model by jessica stam and terry richardson

okay that's not really the name of the video -- it's a short about the new aldo campaign ft. jessica stam that terry richardson shot

but for some reason I love watching videos of models (modeling) for print ads. and this one doesn't disappoint (well if you're not into watching models it's pretty boring, but I like it)

good idea for a halloween costume

I know it's quite early, but this is really a brilliant (and different) idea for a halloween costume:

a real-life comic book girl (or Lichtenstein girl)

i love dan deacon

okay i know this is like 3-4 years old but i am so into this video of dan deacon on a morning tv show and how weird he is and i can just imagine the expressions of everyone in the studio being like 'omg, who got this guy in, because their ass is so getting fired'

is it weird i find this video really attractive? he got way fat though, sad.

smoke

yesterday i sat next to a cigarette machine in a pub and i noticed how all the english ciggie brands have awful packaging that looks dated and tacky, where as the american brands maintain a certain amount of iconic class.

VS

maybe it has something to do with cigarette advertising becoming illegal. can't imagine why, something about kids smoking i think...

but actually i think a lot of vintage smoking ads look amazing.

**this post has nothing to do with debwa's opinion of smoking, that is secret.
***i'm not even sure that any of these brands are specifically made in the uk or made in america - i'm just going by what is mainly stocked in the shops

oh kathleen hanna

how can I love your music so much, but think your voice/the way you speak/what you say is really utterly annoying? sad.

skip to 15:30 to get to the good, non-annoying part of the interview

in love in love in love

yum.

time to shed the winter coat

hellooooo... it's mid february and that means that sooner than you think we will want to be wearing shortie shorts and bikini tops. it also means that it's time to start thinking about getting rid of the winter coat, aka christmas/ thanksgiving/ cozy winter food extra ten pounds that you put on (but don't get me wrong, it keeps you warm!)in the colder months. i am going to invest my time and money in one thing and one thing only: Richard Simmons.

A lot of people make fun of him, and maybe you think he is a fruitcake (he is) but i think his videos are fun and easy to do and i would take him over power yogalatborobics any day. sweatin to the oldies and disco sweat are highly recommended.

plus, check this out:

oh and i kind of want his outfit. really bad.

a new muppet movie!

wow! there is a new muppets movie coming out. i am looking forward to this. i love the muppets, so much better than computer animation. except i wish i worked on this movie. shit.

queen

debwa loves queen. actually i think bruno rips off his style a bit, but, hey, you can't go wrong with a classic.

here is warren from the vandals dressed up as freddie mercury and hanging out in front of Graumans chinese theater. i'm not so into the cover, but i am super into his outfit and dancing around and bothering the other impersonators.

here is the real song. it makes me want to do exercise. yeah!

clouded apollo

I really really like this artist's, Chloe Early, work. Her paintings from the collection(?) "clouded apollo" are a quite interesting mix of half-undone fantastical settings but then have pieces of great detail and her use of shadow and darker colors are so beautiful. I like the softness of some lines and the hard edges of others.

it kinda looks like someone threw water on very specific, well-chosen areas and I am into it

go to her website here to see more

I think I love jewelry

I've never super been into jewelry (I prefer my jewelry like I like my drinks -- cheap and love at first sight), so I usually shop at forever21 or that sort of place. but lately, I keep seeing jewelry that I REALLY like that is a little bit over my budget, but nothing too crazy (like in the $90-$300 range).

like these rings

this zipper bracelet

and I adore this stingray ring

this tusk ring is super cool

looks like I will have to start a jewelry budget now. shitter.

ooooh no they didn't.

maybe you recgonise this goth baby. i do, i used to have a t-shirt with this very logo on it, but then people started asking 'why is she wearing a yarmulke?' so i colored her SHINY HAIR (not Jewish skullcap) in with a sharpie. (also while i was wearing this shirt this popular jock kid named Zach said 'You are so weird. If i was locked in a room with you, I'd kill myself') i liked that shirt, but then hot topic blew up and became the mecca for mall metal kids and 'emily the strange' became their national mascot.

turns out the whole thing is a a rip off.

this is a book from 1978. BAM.

you can read more about it here

the interview quotations with 'creator' rob reger are quite good and i like that they have included the response from him and the company to the blog itself.

I am a snob . . .

b/c I saw the blue romper below online and saw the price ($30) and saw the brand "aerie" (which I was unfamiliar w/) and was like whoa! that is an amazing steal I am going to buy that right now!

then I went to the website and saw that aerie was the underwear side of american eagle and I was like "ew. nevermind." but I still think it is cute!

oh well. I think I will still get it.
