yay marching band.
except the singer's jacket is way way too small and his wrists should NOT be showing.
also it would kind of suck to have to be a swamp thing for this video.
oh and here is the actual marching band doing the field show. they do a 'man on a treadmill' formation. wow.

i just touch my princess
my favorite part about this video is that for the entire first half i thought it was a gay video (hello, it's the village people) and then when it just gets to the point of being OTT homoerotic, they bring in the babes, who are also OTT and are so lust driven they can't help but grind parking meters, which in a way makes the men seem even more gay.
i also like the package on the guy with the fringe-y suede suit. check it out when he is doing his thrusts at 0:40. i think he has a semi.
it's so fulfilling.

she's real.

here are some gems from this little goody:
-- j. lo singing (aka autotune) "and when I'm feelin sexy, whose gonna comfort me?"
-- ja rule sayin "I'm nastay" (and then my vagina seals itself up)
-- j. lo saying "nigga" in a baby voice b/c that makes it okay?
-- ja rule looking like a downie the whole time (but I think that is just how his face is)

kd if you aren't into this band then I don't know you at all. definitely listen to more than just this song to fully get the sound. apparently they are a duo from austin, texas, and describe their sound as "A robot making love to a tree!!" maybe everybody has heard of them already they have been around since 2004 but I suck at the new music thing and just listened to them this weekend
a friend saw them live playing at some san francisco party or something I don't remember where she said but she said they are the most amazing live band eva. and I don't think she's even into this type of music! that means they are incredible.
here is the first song my friend played for me by them but the asshole who uploaded it disabled embedding. check it out anyways.

trapped in the closet is the best thing I've ever seen
So last night I had the undeniable pleasure of viewing r. kelly’s hip-hopera “trapped in the closet,” although I would explain it as a “conversational musical narrative with r. kelly singing all the parts and playing different characters.” Yes, it was as good as it sounds. It basically was 22 chapters aka music videos that follow the most crazy storyline I have ever seen (basically it was as illogical as the craziest soap opera), and was 1 ½ hours long.
Let me just give a highlight of all of the best parts:
-everybody is cheating on everybody and r. kelly gets busted at his jump-off’s house. Her husband finds him, but it’s okay b/c it turns out he’s a pastor and won’t kill him, but he DOES have a gay lover that shows up
-a bp cop that r. kelly’s wife boned comes home to find his fat white trash wife (that r. kelly tries to give her a southern accent. It doesn’t work) acting weird, and it turns out there is a midget under his sink that the wife’s been banging. Oh, and then the midge says he shitted himself b/c the cop is trying to beat him up. Oh, and she’s pregnant and it’s the midge’s baby. oh, and sometimes the midge faints b/c so much is going on.
-r. kelly pulls out his gun probably every 3 minutes. And then they go to an Italian mobster who calls r. kelly a “moolie” or however you spell the Italian derogatory word for a black person, and then calls r. kelly’s brother in law “LL Fool J”

-these oldies (one of which is r. kelly dressed up w/ cotton glued on his face for a white beard) yell at each other and the old bp reveals he was hiding in the closet (a running theme here, obvi) and heard the pastor’s lover call from the hospital. Apparently, he has the “package.” They never say what the package is, but it’s pretty evident that it’s HIV. So, the pastor presumably has it, so his wife has it, so r. kelly has it, so HIS wife has it, so the cop has it, so the white trash wife has it, so the midge has it. The end.

this ny times article talks about it a bit more in depth and basically says that r. kelly is aware of how utterly ridiculous (and wonderful) it is. anyone who hasn't seen this, please netflix this now.

more bollywood.
Apparently the movie, Gumnaam, is about a group of dance contest winners that go to a remote island with a mansion and a crazy butler, only to be killed one by one. I especially like this dancing because it's amazing but i think i could do it without screwing it up really badly or looking autistic. but it's sort of a dance a downy might do, so maybe not.
This movie is also amazing:
it's called Tears of the Black Tiger in English, or Fah talai jone "heaven strike the thief" in thai. It's a thai western. It's very retro looking and until just now i thought it was. Turns out it was made in 2000. The colors are really amazing and everything is over the top and stylized and beautiful.
It kind of makes me sad that it's modern and intentionally over the top and not just another culture over-interpreting an american thing.
This post + the japabillies teaches us that anything america can do (surf music, rockabilly style, westerns) the far east can take it and make it 5 times more amazing.
